Features:
Handling waste streams, manure, and manure slurry, in today’s environment is challenging and expensive. The ALLEY CAT provides a cost-effective solution to a variety of situations. Developed specifically to handle sand laden manure in varying temperatures on dairy farms, the ALLEY CAT addresses the problems associated with waste removal in a number of industries. Are you looking for a cost effective, method to collect and centrally store manure? The ALLEY CAT provides the answer. This piece of equipment is flexible, durable, maneuverable, and adjusts to various alley widths. The operational manure handling challenges on our 3000 cow dairy were myriad. We bed with sand, which results in sand laden manure. We are located in an area of the country that experiences wide and cold temperature variations. CAFO regulation is increasing making traditional lagoon storage an issue. Odor control and good neighbor practices are concerns. In general we face the same challenges of manure disposal that all involved in the dairy industry face. As we attempt to address the challenges, we have explored sand separation, chemical treatment, digesters, composting, and the rising operational costs of manure handling. Major obstacles in all of the solutions include centralized collection and storage, sand, and excessive capital and operational costs. Before we developed the ALLEY CAT, we scraped our alleyways utilizing loaders and tire blades. We scraped manure into several locations which meant handling the manure several times. Each barn required 45 minutes to clean. Two loaders were running around the clock. We needed back up loaders to avoid slow downs in the event of a breakdown. Now with one ALLEY CAT, we clean an alley in a single pass, collect and store all the manure at a central location, and handle all the manure with time to spare. Available in the spring of 2005 in the $100,000 range. |
